For some, thrifting is a weekend hobby. For others, it’s a lifelong pursuit of identity, memory, and a deep-seated respect for the stories woven into the past. This month, we are thrilled to feature Angela, a thrifter whose curated wardrobe and home are a beautiful reflection of what it means to live intentionally.
From wandering local storefronts as a kid to scoring the ultimate Facebook Marketplace treasure, Angela embodies the grit, drive, and heart that defines our community.
Standing Out in a Mass-Produced World
Angela’s journey into the world of secondhand began early, born out of a desire to find her own voice.
“I’ve been thrifting for as long as I can remember,” Angela shares. “There used to be this little thrift shop down the street from my house and I’d always wander around in there and see what I could find. I never really fit in with the kids at my school, so I was always looking for something that I’d never seen anyone wear before.”
That early quest for individuality evolved into a distinct personal aesthetic she describes as “soft but edgy, with a little bit of 70s, 80s, and 90s inspiration.” It’s a style that doesn’t lean on modern trends, but instead pulls the best elements of the past into the present.
The Magic of Memory Lane
For Angela, the best finds are the ones wrapped in nostalgia. Her ultimate, all-time favorite secondhand score isn’t a piece of clothing, but a brilliant piece of home decor with a deep family connection.
“I found a Vintage Amber Swag lamp on Facebook Marketplace for $25,” she says. “My dad used to have one when I was younger and it ended up broken. I’d been on the hunt for one for a while at that point. I messaged them so fast!”
The connection to her father runs deep through her thrifting DNA. When asked about her most memorable day out hunting for treasures, Angela points back to those family roots.
“I think it would have to be thrifting with my Dad. He loved cowboy boots and leather jackets, so we would always be looking. Those days were always the best, typically followed up with ice cream and a nice Sunday cruise around the city.”
Quality, Grace, and the Power of Second Chances
When it comes to choosing curated, sustainable fashion over fast-fashion alternatives, Angela’s philosophy is rooted in both the tangible and the philosophical.
“The best part of having a curated and sustainable wardrobe is the quality,” she notes. “Vintage pieces were made to last at the times they were made.”
But beyond the superior stitching and durable fabrics, she sees a deeper mission in keeping items out of the landfill. It’s about giving great design a new lease on life. “Thrifting keeps things out of the landfill and gives it a second chance,” Angela says. “Wouldn’t you want a second chance if you were given the grace?”
As for the legendary “one that got away”? Angela laughs it off with the wisdom of a seasoned pro: “I have looked at so much stuff I couldn’t even tell you!”

- Tune Out the Noise: “I use headphones when I thrift by myself. It allows you to concentrate on what you’re looking for rather than hearing all the commotion of the store.”
- Map Your Route: Don’t just wander aimlessly. Angela hits the floor with a plan: decor first, then knick-knacks, kitchen, bedding, books and movies, and finally, clothing.
- Prioritize the Target: “If I’m looking for something specific, I will just go right to that section first.”
